With everything going on around us, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or sad. So, what can we do lift our spirits and help ourselves to let go of the negative things that occupy our minds?
At Premiere, we are huge advocates of dedicating time to self-preservation and overall wellness. We know that a day at the spa is the ultimate in relaxation. So, if you can’t get to the spa, it’s a great idea to bring the experience home and indulge in some DIY pampering from the comfort of your own bathroom. To help, here are some simple at-home spa tips and recipes.
Here is what we have to share:
An at-home hair mask is a great do-it-yourself beauty treatment, especially when hair tends to get dry, frizzy and full of static. To make one, just combine 1/2 cup honey, with one tablespoon of olive oil, one egg yolk, and one avocado. Mash up the mixture with a fork and apply it to clean damp hair, combing it through from roots to ends. Wrap hair in a towel and leave it for 30 minutes while enjoying some fun music, getting lost in a book, or listening to your favorite podcast or guided meditation. Then just hop in the shower and shampoo and condition your locks like normal. You’ll see smooth, shiny results instantly!
If your skin is dry and itchy, and you can't reach for one of our favorite Farmhouse Fresh Body Scrubs, whip up a batch of homemade body scrub. We love anything that smells divine, so keep it simple by mixing 1/2 cup coconut oil with 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Stand in the shower and use a bath mitt, washcloth or your hands to apply the mixture in circular strokes. After you’ve scrubbed up from head to toe, rinse with warm water. Once your skin has dried, you can apply a small amount of coconut oil to lock in moisture for a smooth, baby-soft finish.
We love a facial, especially here in Erie where the weather can deplete the skin of its natural moisture. If your face is feeling flaky, use the scrub above to get rid of pesky dead skin cells, and then follow it up with either your favorite Farmhouse Fresh Facial Mask or an all-natural face mask to get back your glow. Combine 1/4 cup plain yogurt with 2 tablespoons honey and 1 medium banana. Mash the ingredients until they are combined well and apply the mixture to clean, dry skin. Let it set for 20 minutes and rinse with warm water.
If your mind is swirling at bedtime and you have trouble falling asleep, make a foot soak part of your night time routine. This traditional Chinese therapy helps people to relax after a long day and can be helpful for circulatory problems or to aid in overall relaxation. Right before bed, prepare a standard size tub or large bowl by dissolving one cup of Epsom salt in warm water and add a few orange or other citrus peels. Relax while soaking your feet for 10 to 15 minutes or until the water becomes tepid. Dry and apply a thick moisturizer and warm socks for a super soft result.
